Authoritative in every sense, Charles Boewe's enlargement of Fitzpatrick's pioneering study (1911) adds more than 50 hitherto unknown Rafinesque titles, expands bibliotheca Rafinesquiana from 139 items to about 500, and gives the first complete account of unpublished Rafinesque manuscripts. Often working on the American frontier, and always on the frontiers of knowledge, Rafinesque self-published numerous botanical pamphlets in small editions, which are almost impossible to obtain today.
