The first published edition, reprinting in its entirety the tremendously rare and controversial paper refused publication in 1900 by the JAMA, written by a Chicago physician, demanding for women the right to know the truth about sexual problems and diseases. For the 1900 annual meeting of JAMA in Chicago, Dr. Lewis had printed a small number of copies for physicians (three survived) and included details of the controversy. Finally published by the JAMA in 1983 in their Centennial issue under the heading "Delayed Communications."
