LCP/HSP Afro-Americana Catalogue, 10226. Thompson went to Africa following his release from prison in Missouri where he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for "intending to attempt to steal slaves." His 1847 book, Prison Life and Relections was influential in swinging public opinion in the North against injustices in slave states such as Missouri.
