"We have all deplored the existence of the Mexican War, because we all know that it was provoked for the purpose of extending the horrors of slavery, and we all abhor slavery." Opposes the re-election of Rep. (formerly R.I. Governor) Lemuel H. Arnold who, unlike Rhode Island's eastern representative, Henry Y. Cranston, has supported administration measures to conduct the war against Mexico.
