New York: Edward Dunigan, 1840. 1st American edition. Thick 16mo. 520 pp. Orig. gilt stamped calf, with gilt stamped cross on front cover. Aeg. $275.00

The burning of the Ursuline Convent in Charlestown, Mass. in 1834 was a landmark event in the American nativistic movement. It was followed by a nation-wide campaign against Catholicism in the following decades, and probably accounts for the scarcity of Ursuline manuals.
