Orig. pictorial wraps. Some pencilling, but very good. $200.00 Intriguing little advertising piece for Carmichael's Jackson buggy. Carmichael was a carriage manufacturer of Jackson, Georgia. He ostensibly awarded a prize to a resident of Georgia for the "poem best advertising Carmichael's Jackson Buggy. The winner, Miss Rosa Belle Thornton, wrote fourteen four-line verses in Negro dialect. The prize was awarded by local newspaper columnist and poet, Frank L. Stanton, who was prominent between about 1890 and his death in 1927. |
